E 101 GRADING CATEGORIES AND
PROPORTIONS
Please note:
you are allowed one free miss of an essay. The grade will not be
computed, nor will there be any penalty. Such a case should
occur only if you are absent. You cannot opt out of an essay,
nor will the lowest grade be dropped. The one free
miss applies only in emergencies. It does not apply, however, to
the last essay of Argument, which will function as a sort of
"final exam," hence its heavier weight (see below).
Following are the grade
categories and their respective weights:
ESSAYS (70 %)
Example (10)
Reasons (05)
Examples # 2 (05)
Process (20)
C/C (20)
Definition (10)
Argument (30)
DOCUMENTED ESSAY (20 %)
ATTENDANCE (5 %)
PARTICIPATION (5 %)
Please note also that Incompletes
will not be given. You must submit the Documented Essay and be
present for the Argument final essay.
You will submit your Documented
Essay in a P. O. mailer which I will supply (details later), and
I will send by mail your essay and a computer printout of your
grades and semester average. I will keep your Argument essay as
a sample of your writing should you later have any questions or
need a letter of recommendation.
NOTE: if I insert any
further essays, the grade proportions will be adjusted
accordingly.
